Avoid Costly Mistakes When Buying A Kid's Twin Bed
Oh no! The twin bed you bought two years ago is already uncomfortable for your child's fast growing frame. You realize now if you'd bought a bed with box springs it might have supported his frame better, and the foot board is now restricting his movement during sleep.
To avoid wasting money you should carefully consider many points as you prepare to make your purchase. Is your child above average in height? What does your child like and find comfortable? Do you have more than one child to accommodate? How much space is in the child's room? Will there be overnight guests? Do you need extra storage? Is the bed safe? The list is extensive.
A child that is in the larger height percentile might be better accommodated with a double or queen sized bed. Avoid particle board construction as this is much less durable than hard wood or steel. Lastly, a foot board might restrict movement in the future so it might make more sense to avoid this type of style.
What does your child like? If you bought the latest cartoon character bed today, will your child want to sleep in it two years from now? Better to buy a classic style today which can last a while and change off the linens and comforters with popular themes.
Do not shop for the mattresses for your kid's bed alone. Your child should be asked to choose a mattress that is comfortable to them and properly supports their spine.
Mattresses are more important than the bed frame for your child's health. Experts recommend changing a mattress every ten years to ensure proper spine support. If you have a limited budget, then opt for a new mattress of over a new bed frame. You can always paint over an older frame to give it new life.
Some of the types of beds you can choose from include bunk, trundle, canopy and captain beds. For example the bunk bed is so much fun for a child and offers so much functionality it is a difficult choice not to consider. If you are thinking about purchasing one, safety is key as is the possibility of uncoupling the beds into separate beds for future use by a more mature child.
My Son Loves His New Batman Bedding Set
Recently, my wife and I got new sheets for my 5-year old son. We figured he had outgrown the old, plain sheets we got for him after first upgrading him to a twin size bed a few years ago. As a kid back in the day, I was always fascinated by the Marvel superheroes, but never had the good fortune of fancy sheets. So I figured I'd do my son a little better and got him a nice, new Batman Comforter Set.
It was a little stiff as a lot of highly-printed sheets tend to be, but my wife ran it through the washer and dryer with fabric softener and the stiffness problem went away. My son really seemed to love the new theme, to the point where he keeps talking about Batman. Now we're thinking of more ways to decorate his bedroom. I think a full-out batman theme is a bit excessive for a boy, but I guess I'll spend some time thinking about this to see what else I can come up with.
This set in particular that we got has quite a classic Batman cartoon feel to it. Not so much like the new, modern, and cool Dark Knight feel. I figured we'd start a kid out with something cartoonish and work our way up to the "cool" themes that teenagers today seem to be into.
Batman Bedroom Themes For the Kids
Batman themes are easy to incorporate in a young child's bedroom, and boys in particular love this classic superhero. With the introduction of the movie, The Dark Knight, however, many parents want to steer their little boys away from the violence of this popular hero. If this is your concern, you can still allow your little guy to explore his love of Batman and avoid the darker emphasis associated with the latest Batman movie.
By choosing an appropriate theme that focuses on more age-appropriate material, you can create a room that your child and you will both love. Well-chosen colors, patterns, artwork, and accessories can center on the classic hero in all his glory and avoid the darker themes of the more violent version of Batman. Batman Bedding and Accessories
Before you choose your paint colors and other accessories, you should take a look at the many versions of Batman bedding available. Although each type of bedding will certainly feature the superhero, you can find bedding that plays up certain colors, such as blue, red, black, and yellow. Once you've chosen the Batman bedding for your child's room, pull a color from that bedding to use on the walls, and then choose an accent color to work into the room in other ways, such as light fixtures, artwork, rugs, paint trim, and throw pillows. Popular wall colors and paint trim combinations include the following:
- Yellow walls/black trim and black furniture
- Blue walls/black or white trim and black furniture
- Red walls/blue or white trim, and natural wood furniture
Of course, these are just suggestions, and you may come up with a better color combination that you like. Again, use the Batman bedding as the inspiration. Other popular wall and trim colors include gunmetal gray, blue/gray, beige or tan.
Shopping for Batman bedding will yield a variety of choices. If you are in the market for sheets, comforter, and a bed skirt, you may want to consider purchasing a bed in a bag set. Not only is this a simple way to pull everything together, but you can often save money with bed in a bag sets as opposed to purchasing pieces separately. If you want to buy virtually everything you need to complete the room, look for sets that include throw pillows, curtains, and even rugs.
